Copenhagen, Denmark –- February 26, 2009 –- One of Denmark's largest banks, Jyske Bank, today announced that it has selected Sun's MySQL database to power its online banking product, Jyske Netbank Erhverv, in order to be able to serve a larger number of concurrent users, while improving the reliability and performance of its service.
About 10,000 small and medium-sized companies in Denmark rely on Jyske Netbank Erhverv for their banking transactions and other operations. Additionally, the software can be integrated with companies’ financial systems to provide users with a complete overview of their corporate finances.
"We selected MySQL for its high levels of reliability and performance," said Andreas Møllgaard, director of IT security and IT management at Jyske Bank. "We wanted to improve the scalability of our system, to better address the needs of our major corporate customers while being able to handle a larger number of concurrent users. MySQL fit the bill perfectly."
Jyske Bank Erhverv had previously been based on a proprietary database from Microsoft, and has now migrated onto MySQL Embedded Server. Jyske Bank entered into an OEM agreement with Sun Microsystems in order to embed and deploy MySQL within its online banking product, and benefit from 24/7 support from the vendor.
"We are very proud that Jyske Bank selected MySQL for this mission critical application," said Magnus Stenberg, MySQL sales manager for Nordics & Benelux at Sun Microsystems. "The database requirements for banking applications in terms of reliability, security, availability and performance are absolutely critical. Jyske Bank's selection of MySQL as the core of their online banking product is a testament to MySQL’s fitness for important business applications."
MySQL is the most popular open source database software in the world. Many of the world's largest and fastest-growing organizations use MySQL to save time and money powering their high-volume Web sites, critical business systems, and commercial software. At www.mysql.com, Sun provides corporate users with premium subscriptions and services, and actively supports the large MySQL open source developer community.
Jyske Bank employs a staff of more than 4,000 and operates 119 Danish branches, which makes it the second largest independent Danish bank. Jyske Bank offers a full range of financial solutions to retail as well as small and medium-sized corporate clients. Moreover Jyske Bank offers other types of financial transactions through the subsidiaries Jyske Finans A/S and Nordisk Factoring.
